Watch ESPN Live Streams to your iPhone, iPad or iPod.

The latest streaming live TV app was released on Apple’s App Store last week for all the iOS products. (iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch…and once again, Android and Blackberry user are out of luck).  It comes from ESPN, called WatchESPN, and allows users live streams to ESPN’s family of channels on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, and ESPN3.com for free (well sort of).  There is a catch.  In order to view WatchESPN on your Apple product, you must be a subscriber to one of the following TV cable services:  Bright House Networks, Time Warner Cable, and Verizon FIOS TV.  If you only subscribe to Verizon FIOS internet service, the only channel you can stream is ESPN3.com.  Everyone else you are out of luck.

Watch ESPN Streams on iPhone, iPad, or iPodThere has been this constant battle over internet and mobile streams between the networks and the cable providers.  Its nothing new really, just a lame, on-going saga.  Ever wonder why games get blacked out or why you can’t get your local baseball game on DirecTV?  You have the cable companies and their “content rights” to thank.

Regardless, the WatchESPN App seems like a winner.  It’s not some water downed version like most streaming TV apps.  You will get access to the NBA playoffs, Barclay’s Premier League soccer games, Spanish Premiera Division, ATP Tennis Grand-Slam tournaments, the whole deal.  On top of that, ESPN’s normal programming such as SportsCenter and PTI will be available live as well.

Hopefully as time goes on, more cable and satellite networks will jump on board and make the live ESPN streams available to everyone.  Viacom, for example, continues to fight against live TV streams, but they will come around.  Don’t fight the internet…its bigger than any one company.
