Stream HBO GO to your iPhone, iPad, or Android Device

HBO released their streaming app which allows HBO subscribers to watch all HBO shows and programming on their laptop, iPhone, iPad, or Android Device for free. On the surface, it seems like a pretty cool service to use on a mobile device, especially since it’s free. The depth of the programming seems to be quite complete and extensive, even more so than you would see on your TV. Many of the older episodes are series are available through the streaming HBO GO service and the same can not be said for its on demand through the TV. However, there are a few draw backs.

First off, it is not available on all cable services. Only the following list of cable providers will allow for the HBO Go stream:

So Time Warner, Astound, etc. customers you are all out of luck at least for now. On top of that, not all Android devices are working. Go check your device on the Android Marketplace to find out if it will work (Honeycomb tables seem to be not compatible). Lastly, according to many of the reviews, when HBO GO is streaming over 3G it is rather buggy. Most users are not complaining about WiFi, just 3G. It seems HBO has some work to do so the app is running properly, available on more devices, and available to all cable subscribers.

I have not tested this app for myself since I don’t subscribe to HBO, but it seems like at least an added bonus. The service is not enough to get my to subscribe and unfortunately, there is no stand alone service to buy for non HBO subscribers.
