Angry Birds vs. Tiny Wings Game: Battle for the Birds
Tiny Wings is a farily new game coming out of Apple’s App Store which has recently dethroned Angry Birds atop Apple’s Top Grossing App list. Angry Birds has seen the top and seen it often since it came out awhile back. Both are great, fun games and both are cheap ($0.99). I’m a big fan of the 99 cent games…hours of entertainment, for less than a buck…can’t beat it. So which is better, Angry Birds or Tiny Wings? Let’s ignore the fact that Angry Birds has been out for awhile, which gives it time to update, expand, improve, etc. Here is my List:
The Levels:
In both games to some extent you do the same thing over and over. Angry Birds you blow stuff up and knock things over while Tiny Wings you are jumping off hills. Angry Birds, however, is way more dynamic about blowing stuff up. You get to blow up baloons, houses, rocks, wood, all sorts of stuff. Lots of fun. With Tiny Wings, you are just jumping around on different shaped hills.
Winner: Angry Birds
Objectives within Levels:
Again, both games pretty similar with giving you objectives within the levels. Tiny Wings as a game is more centered around this than Angry Birds. In Tiny Wings, to move on you need to complete these objectives while in Angry Birds they are an added bonus. Angry Birds you try and shoot for maximum points by achieving all the objectives or simply just do they minimum to move on to the next level.
Winner: Angry Birds
Ease of Use:
Tiny Wings you only need a finger touch/tap to play…doesn’t get much simpler than that. Just time your taps and you are playing like a champ. Angry Birds you can do a variety of things. For example, one of the birds you need to aim and launch him from the slingshot and then tap to get him to return like a boomerang. Little more difficult but also can be more fun and dynamic.
Winner: Tiny Wings
Graphics:
Angry Birds is a great looking, cartoonish looking game. The bird character are funny to look at and so are the little green monsters you are trying to blow up. Tiny Wings has a very simple graphics that look somewhat retro. The graphics will change colors and somewhat differ in apperance as you play the game. This doesn’t change the actual level, just the way it looks. The bird character in Tiny Wings is also very cartoon looking and funny to watch fly through the air.
Winner: Tie
More Frustrating if you get Stuck on a Level:
Oh man, we all have gotten mad at games and ready to throw phones, controllers, whatever when we get mad and frustrated. These games are no different. Both seem so simple yet can be extremely hard and frustrating. In Angry Birds, it’s really not that difficult to pass the level itself, however achieving maximum points and completing the objectives is very tough. With Tiny Wings, for the most part the objectives are the levels so this can add to the frustration if you get stuck and can’t move one. The fact alone that Tiny Wings is so simple to play, if you get stuck, the frustration on intensifies.
Winner: Tiny Birds (Not sure if this is a good thing or bad thing)
Drum roll please…
The Overall Winner for Battle of the Birds goes to Angry Birds. The game is very dynamic and yet very simple at the same time. You can make the games as easy or as difficult as you want, which is why I believe it appeals to a range of people. The characters in the game are hilarious and the mere fact that you are launching birds from a slingshot to blow stuff up is awesome. Both games are worth a try, but if you have to choose one, go with Angry Birds.
